Annual CFCG certification renewal to maintain title. Includes renewal of CFMG title and NCGIA membership.
It is the responsibility of the member to maintain their CFCG by renewing PRIOR to the expiration date. If certification expires, a member will have to retake all exams, at their own expense, to earn the CFCG title once again. Certification renewal fees are non-refundable.
NOTE: Membership is REQUIRED for certification. This means that anyone wishing to take certification exams MUST be a member of the NCGI. If NCGI membership is not renewed annually, any certification titles that have been earned will expire at the same time that membership expires. There is a 12-month grace period for expired CFMGs whereby a late fee of $25/month is required to be paid along with the CFMG Membership renewal fee of $85 in order to reinstate membership and title status during this 12-month grace period. After this grace period, if CFMG Membership renewal fee and late fees are not paid, the CFMG title is permanently expired. To earn certification again in the future, membership must be re-applied for, and all certification exams must be retaken and passed with appropriate scores.
For those who have completed 1 or more certification exams but not yet earned their CFMG title (‘certification in progress’ status), membership must be maintained to keep the benefit of completed exam scores. Should a member choose to let their membership expire while certification is in progress and then decide later to continue with the certification process, they will need to start over by signing up as a new member and pay the new member $60 fee for the first year. They can then choose between the following two options:
A. Start from the beginning with the exam process to retake any previously passed exams, or
B. Pay the file recovery fee of $285 to reinstate all previously passed exams and have their file updated.
